Why there are two balances at all

Sweepstakes casinos are not licensed gambling operators. They run under promotional sweepstakes law, which is the same body of rules that lets a soft-drink company put a prize code under a bottle cap. The condition attached to that law is that entry must be free, and the way these sites satisfy it is by splitting the account in two.

One balance is the entertainment currency — gold coins at most brands, and variously Wow Coins, Lucky Coins or Thunder Coins elsewhere. You can buy it, you are given a lot of it, and it is worth nothing outside the games. The other balance is the promotional entry currency, usually sweeps coins. You cannot buy it directly. It comes attached to a coin purchase, drops in daily, or arrives by post if you request it, and it is the only balance that can be turned into money.

What a coin package really contains

Every package on this site is quoted the way the brand quotes it, which means the gold figure comes first and is enormous. Read past it. A package of 375,000 GC plus 50 SC is a 50 SC offer; the gold portion is stock for the machine, not value for you. We list the redeemable figure as its own column for exactly this reason, and the ranking is built on it.

This is also why the biggest headline number on this page belongs to a brand in the bottom third. Two million gold coins sounds decisive until you notice the sweeps figure next to it is two.

Play-through, and why it is the real cost

Sweeps coins arrive locked. Before they can be redeemed they have to be staked a set number of times — the play-through requirement. At one-times, which most of our list uses, 50 SC has to be wagered 50 SC in total. Wins and losses along the way move your balance but do not change the target, because the target is measured in stakes.

At two-times you stake 100 SC to clear the same 50, which hands the house edge twice as many opportunities to take the balance before you reach the cashier. It is the single most reliable way to make a generous-looking offer worse, and it is why two brands here sit lower than their packages suggest.

The redemption floor

Even a fully cleared balance cannot be redeemed until it reaches the brand’s minimum — usually 50 SC, sometimes 100 SC. A low floor lets a small win end in a payout. A high floor forces you to keep playing, and every extra spin is another chance for the balance to fall back under the line. Two brands with identical packages can produce completely different outcomes because of this one figure.

Getting the money out

Redemption means filing a request, passing an identity check once, and choosing where the money goes — bank transfer, a card, or a wallet depending on the brand. The check is a legal requirement and it happens on the first redemption only. After that the process is a few taps.

The times in our table start when the request is filed on an already-verified account and stop when the money arrives. They are medians of three separate filings, not best cases, and the review for each brand says whether the slowest of the three was close to the middle one.
